White House quiet, Obama wont veto Defense Authorization Bill
The White House isn’t saying whether it will follow through on a threat to veto the defense authorization bill because of a provision regarding the detention of terror suspects.
Ron Paul Nearly Tied For First In Iowa
Ron Paul has surged to seconde place in likely Republican caucus goers, just one percent behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the current front-runner.
Paul has consistently placed in the top tier of Republican presidential candidates in recent Iowa polls. With Iowans heading to vote in only three weeks, Gingrich holds a razor-thin 22–21 lead.

Poindexter Conspiracy Charge Narrowed 1989
WASHINGTON — A federal judge Monday granted a government request to narrow a conspiracy charge in the Iran-Contra indictment against former National Security Adviser John M. Poindexter.
U.S. District Judge Harold E. Greene agreed to drop allegations of a conspiracy by Poindexter and others to illegally divert funds to the Contras from the Ronald Reagan Administration's secret arms sales to Iran.
Confusion Caused by Military Drill Rattles Markets: Alex Jones

A rumor that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz sent oil prices skyrocketing today, but the story turned out to be inaccurate and was likely a result of confusion surrounding an upcoming Iranian military drill set to take place near the key oil choke point.
As we reported yesterday, an Iranian MP went public with the claim that Iran was about to stage a military drill to practice closing the Strait of Hormuz, after which the Iranian military declined to comment. Earlier today, the Tehran Times confirmed that Iran was preparing to "practice its ability to close the Strait of Hormuz."
A report out of real-time analysts Ransquawk then claimed that the channel had in fact already been closed, a rumor that sent traders scrambling.
"By 10:40 a.m. EDT oil had jumped from $98.590 before the rumor, to $101.25 at its peak, and has settled to $100.30 — still sitting almost $2 higher than before the supposition began," reports Business Insider.
At time of press, prices have settled to around $99 dollars a barrel.
Other reports confirm that the Strait was not closed at any point. Iran's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the Strait is open, reports Bloomberg. In addition, Ransquawk now reports that the U.S. fifth fleet has confirmed maritime traffic in the Strait is normal.
Americans Fear Big Government More Than Anything
Americans’ fear of big government - partly fueled by a sharp spike among Democrats since President Barack Obama took office - almost reached a record high this year and is far greater than people’s concerns about big business and big labor, a new Gallup poll Monday shows.
An overwhelming 64 percent of people surveyed said big government was the biggest threat to the country, compared to just 26 percent who said big business is their gravest concern and 8 percent who picked big labor.

Sheriff’s Department Sponsors Secret Meeting On Small Government ‘Terrorists’

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has teamed up with the Anti-Defamation League to sponsor a quasi-secret meeting in Camarillo, California that characterizes small government activists as violent terrorists.
Entitled The Sovereign Citizen Movement: Exploring Their Ideology & Indicators, the conference is set to take place on January 5th, 2012 and is only open to “Public Safety Personnel”. The precise location of the meeting is only made known to “reviewed and cleared” attendees, a measure of secrecy crafted to imply that members of the Sovereign Citizen movement are a potential violent threat.
Indeed, a flyer for the event written by the ADL’s Joanna Mendelson characterizes the movement as a “right-wing anarchist” fringe group that uses “paper terrorism” to pursue its cause of restoring minimalist government and resorts to harassment, intimidation and violence.
“This seminar is sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League and facilitated by the Ventura Country Sheriff’s Intelligence Unit,” states the flyer.

The ADL’s close relationship with the Ventura County Sheriff’s office has prompted accusations that police have acted on ADL orders to harass local activists and Ron Paul supporters.
The Sovereign Citizen movement, which describes itself as “non-violent,” is routinely the target of smear attacks by groups like the ADL as well as the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. The movement is based around the premise of adhering only to common law and using the legal system to escape from being a “federal citizen” subject to the mandates of the federal government.
In the post-9/11 climate of fear and paranoia generated by the state, distrust of government is defined as ‘homegrown violent extremism’. The establishment media has also been eager to denounce the Sovereign Citizens movement as likely terrorists.
Last year, the FBI admitted that it was spying on members of the movement, characterizing the group as “among the nation’s top domestic terrorist threats, along with animal rights/eco-terrorism, anarchists, and lone offenders with extremist agendas,” while encouraging Americans to act as Stasi-like secret police and inform on its members.

The United States and International Institutions

Overview
The unipolar moment, to the extent it ever existed, has now truly passed. The United States is part of a globalized world, in which the flows of goods, finance, people, and much more connect us to other countries as never before. But for all the myriad benefits globalization brings, it also means that the challenges of the coming decades—be they generated by resource competition, climate change, cybercrime, terrorism, or classic competition and rivalry—cannot be solved or even mitigated by one country alone. Countries will need to cooperate on policies that extend across borders to address issues that affect them all.
In this Council Special Report, CFR scholars Paul B. Stares and Micah Zenko argue that the United States should increasingly look to international institutions—the United Nations and regional organizations like the European Union, the African Union, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations—as partners in conflict prevention and peacemaking worldwide. These organizations can serve as a platform for developing and enforcing international norms; provide a source of legitimacy for diplomatic and military efforts; and aggregate the operational resources of their members, all of which can increase the ease and effectiveness of American peacemaking efforts.
The CSR explores the ways these institutions are already contributing to the creation and maintenance of peace, from the UN’s conflict monitoring systems to the dispute resolution mechanisms at the Organization of American States and the nascent African Standby Force of the African Union, before turning to a series of recommendations on ways the United States can improve its interaction with these institutions and maximize their potential.
To reduce the risk of conflict, the authors write, the United States should work to expand and institutionalize international norms against both intra- and interstate violence. They also suggest that the United States further efforts toward economic growth and good governance in the developing world, both of which reduce the potential for conflict, and work to institutionalize a limited form of the responsibility to protect. To head off brewing conflicts, the authors recommend closer cooperation among the United States and international institutions on conflict monitoring and intelligence sharing, coordination on aid disbursements, and increasing American representation on and funding to bodies working in these areas. And where conflict has already broken out, they note, the United States could still enable a rapid response by enhancing international capacity to quickly deploy civilian and military assets to new conflict zones.
Partners in Preventive Action raises important issues for U.S. policymakers contemplating a world of increasing complexity at a time of decreasing means. It provides a comprehensive look at the conflict prevention capacity of international institutions and poses thoughtful recommendations on how they can be improved. While there will continue to be a place for independent action, ad hoc coalitions, and formal alliances, this CSR successfully argues for the present and future importance of international institutions.

Bombshell Article Blows "Green Energy" Scam Out Of The Water
In one of the most scathing indictments of government mismanagement we have ever witnessed, Ontario Auditor-General Jim McCarter reported Monday that Mr. McGuinty’s green dream has rapidly become an $8-billion nightmare for Ontario taxpayers and electricity users. Almost no new net power will be generated by all the green-energy projects hastily funded since the bill was passed, but the average residential consumer will see more than $400 a year added to his power bill for a decade to pay for all the bad contracts with and subsidies to eco-friendly power suppliers.

Gingrich, the Fight is on
Gingrich, the Fight is on
By Joharah Baker
Two things happened this week that shook the Palestinians to their core. The first was the killing of Mustapha Tamimi, the 27-year old popular resistance activist who was shot directly in the face with a teargas canister while protesting Israel’s measures in his village. His death has struck a painful cord in every Palestinian who understands what it means to resist the occupation, to live under its yoke and to refuse to accept its measures as some sort of unfortunate status quo. Mustapha Tamimi, for whom thousands of Palestinians took to the streets to participate in his funeral, is the perfect example of the present and future shape of Palestine’s struggle. His village has carried out a courageous battle against Israel’s expropriation of land for the illegal settlement of Halmish and against the usurpation of its water supply, week after week, without a break. While the demonstrations have been peaceful, Israel has been unrelenting. Residents have been beaten, injured and arrested by Israeli troops but Mustapha’s death marks the first real loss. The ultimate violence of Israel’s occupation has caught up with Nabi Saleh.
The second thing that shook us was the comments made by Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich. By now, almost everyone has heard about his racist, outrageous rant, about how he offensively called the Palestinians an "invented people" and how we were all "terrorists." Palestinians, all the way from officials to facebookers, raged against Gingrich, demanding an apology and advising the staunch Israel supporter to "check his facts." Still, the expediency with which we responded did not lessen the sting.
These two events epitomize all that is right and all that is wrong with Palestine’s affairs today. Mustapha Tamimi lived and died a hero for his cause. The popular resistance led by his village is what all revolutionary movements are striving for – consistency, efficacy and passion. He has died, but his cause has not, his memory has not and the throes of people who stood beside him will not give up the fight even as they bitterly mourn their brother and friend.
Gingrich represents the dark side of affairs. He is not alone in his own twisted and racist way of thinking. A slice of America – no matter how small we may make it might to be – adheres to this mindset and blindly supports Israel regardless of what it does or who it hurts.
What is even more outrageous than Gingrich being allowed a podium to vent his venom is that no one has stopped him. The United States and Israel are always breathing down the Palestinians’ necks about spreading incitement and hate and the leadership has honed its words and actions to suit international demands, even in our darkest hours.
Apparently, incitement against the Palestinians (those invented people) is acceptable, even by a man who may become the next president of the United States.
The fact remains that Mustapha Tamimi died right around the time when Gingrich decided to slander us. Tamimi died fighting for his country, his land, his people and his identity. There was nothing "invented" about him or the Palestine for which died. If anything, inanities such as Gingrich’s will only make us fight harder. We will not be made irrelevant, we will not be slandered and we will not accept insults slung at us by some right-wing Republican who probably doesn’t know the second thing about Palestine or the Palestinians.
Someone should send Gingrich a picture of Tamimi. Maybe if he saw the throngs of people, clad in kuffiyehs , raising Palestinian flags and weeping over their comrade, he would see what kind of "invention" the Palestinian people really are. He would see how strong and how proud the Palestinians have always been and how determined they are to regain their land. Maybe then he will realize that no matter how much he tries to slander us or insult us, he is only making a fool out of himself. It is not for someone like Newt Gingrich to tell us who we are. We already know.

Tea Party Shows Its True Colors Backing Newt Globalist Gingrich
By Travinyle1
As a person who attended tea party events it saddens me to see the tea party finally breathe its last breath of life and fully expose how establishment controlled it is. Many polls are showing the Tea Party is supporting Newt Gingrich over real liberty candidates like Ron Paul. People are stepping down in many states as the Tea Party officially backs Newt in many areas.
