Lieberman: Time for U.S. to arm ‘brave’ Syrian rebels

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) said Sunday that the United States should provide medical aid, training and arms to those seeking to oust President Bashar al-Assad.
“The reality on the ground is since the U.N. resolution was vetoed by Russian and Iran [sic], the Assad government has begun to kill its own people with increasing frequency,” he said on CNN’sState of the Union.
Russia and China have vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution aimed at halting Syria’s bloody 11-month crackdown on dissent.

Marine Corps scout snipers used the logo of the notorious Nazi SS organization while in Afghanistan in 2010, the service acknowledged Thursday.
The logo appeared on a flag in a photograph of the platoon taken in September 2010 in Sangin district, a hotly contested area in Helmand province. The Marines were with Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, out of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and are shown sitting in combat gear with the U.S. flag and a blue flag with the stylized “SS” logo hanging behind them.
The logo also appears on a 7.62mm M40 sniper rifle carried by a Marine in another photograph distributed Thursday by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Information embedded electronically with the image shows that it was released by the Marine Corps in 2004 and taken at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif. The two Marines in it were with the scout sniper platoon with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines.

Iran War Would Cost Trillions: Will the GOP Pay More Taxes for That?

While GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul is doing all he can in this election cycle to gin up a debate about US foreign policy and a measure of the costs and benefits, the debate about Iran, China, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel's security has been taking place in a gravityless environment.

Mitt Romney's opening foreign policy opus at the Citadel criticized Obama for defense cuts with promises to boost America's defense commitments abroad, to boost military spending on hardware and ships in the Pacific -- to do everything we have been doing but more.

Where are the dollars going to come from?

It is now a matter of established public record that the “Libyan rebels” the US, through the UN and NATO, funded, armed, trained, recognized politically, and even provided special forces and air support for, were in fact led by the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), listed by the US State Department (page 1) as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization.” Two West Point reports confirm that LIFG was formally joined with Al Qaeda with many of its top leaders constituting the core of Al Qaeda’s upper echelons.

Loud Boom Heard Over South Carolina, Meteor To Blame?

Officials in Spartanburg County said a large boom heard by many people in the Upstate Monday morning may be a meteor. Law enforcement saw a large ball of fire that popped in the air around 1:45 a.m. Monday.  Viewers from Greenville to Cherokee Counties called 7 On Your Side saying they heard the noise and their homes shook.  No one was hurt.
Even a handful of gravel that enters the Earth’s atmosphere at speeds much greater than the speed of sound (possibly at speeds of tens of thousands miles per hour) will create a spectacular light show and make noise; such particles would likely not survive the trip down as they would all burn up along the way.
Millions of these enter the atmosphere every day; most of the ones that cause sky flashes are only pebble/gravel sized and unlikely to survive the trip to land.

US Threatens Iran, Again

The commander of the US Navy base in Bahrain has warned that US forces are prepared for a strike against Iran over the country’s nuclear program.

"We have built a wide range of options to give the president and we are ready... We are ready today," Vice Admiral Mark Fox said at the headquarters of the 5th Fleet in Manama on Sunday.

Fox said he took Iran's military capabilities seriously as it is "capable of striking a blow" to American forces in the Persian Gulf.

The United States has recently intensified its war rhetoric against Iran to put more pressure on the country and stop its peaceful nuclear program. The threats come following the failure of US-led sanctions against Tehran.

US President Barack Obama has repeatedly threatened that all options are on the table regarding Tehran, including a military attack against nuclear facilities
