Blame game intense as government shutdown looms - On Politics: Covering the US Congress, Governors, and the 2010 Election - USATODAY.com

House Speaker John Boehner and the GOP leadership team just emerged from a meeting with their Republican members. Boehner insists the fight is about spending cuts, not policy issues such as funding for women's health clinics.

"The big fight is over spending. ...We're not going to roll over and sell out the American people," Boehner said. "We say we're serious about cutting spending. We're damn serious."

"Almost all of the policy issues have been dealt with. We're working on the spending," he said.
