Osama bin Laden's three widows have been described as "hostile and unhelpful" during an interview with US officials.
It was hoped the women might be able to build a picture of life in the Abbottabad compound where the al Qaeda mastermind and four others were killed last week.
A US official told Fox News that this was the first "discussion" and they hope to establish a rapport with the widows, one of whom was shot in the leg during the Navy Seals mission.
Intelligence officers did not expect the women to be immediately forthcoming, assuming they had been "coached for deception".
It is also claimed a large stash of pornography was found by the US commandos who searched the building after his death.

An intelligence official told the Reuters news agency that the video collection was "extensive", but it wasn't clear whether it was acquired for bin Laden or any of the other residents.
Meanwhile, agents continue to pore over the "treasure trove" of data seized from the house, including the leader's handwritten diary.
It has emerged his focus for al Qaeda strikes remained the US mainland.
While bin Laden considered New York City to be a legitimate target he suggested al Qaeda operatives also consider smaller cities to keep US intelligence agencies guessing.
