SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Cowpens man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday after admitting to spitting on an officer who was trying to arrest him.
Prosecutors said 33-year-old Bobby Mathis pleaded guilty to transferring bodily fluids and resisting arrest.
Investigators said that on Nov. 26, 2011, police were responded to Mathis's home after a disturbance was reported. They said when an officer arrived, Mathis came out of the home screaming. They said that when the officer tried to arrest Mathis, he kicked and spit on the officer. They said the officer had to use pepper spray to arrest Mathis.
The officer was not hurt during the scuffle, prosecutors said.
